Latest news on events, projects and developments at Acanthus...
A series of articles to give you an insight into what Acanthus and its employees are up to. Some work related and others posted light-heartedly for a bit of fun. Enjoy....

The belated Xmas party

Added 11/06/2010

May 15th 2010 saw Acanthus join forces with Zip Imagesetters, Watermark Printing, PM Creative and Peter Atkinson for a belated Xmas meal.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Xmas meal was postponed from pre-Christmas 2009 and owing to busy schedules all round had to be re-set in the Spring.

The White Horse Hotel in Romsey were the unsuspecting hosts for what ended up to be a rowdy old evening (apologies have been made). Needless to say, both the wine and Christmas spirit were flowing with the full seasonal menu being held for our special night.

Let's hope we can do the same next year (if they'll have us back!!).

Jayne in the City

Added 01/06/2010

A week-long trip to New York left Jayne at Acanthus with this to say...

''Wow, what an amazing city, just like stepping on to a movie set, only you are part of it! I found the cities buildings, history and landmarks breathtaking and so much to do; Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero (heartbreaking) and to see a Broadway Show - fantastic! What with great food and the Americans being very helpful and courteous, what more could you ask for!''

(...we're guessing that she was pretty impressed.)

The hills are alive...

Added 27/01/2010

February brings an annual trip to Switzerland for Ray, partner at Acanthus. A combination of skiing, sledging, photography, beer and food will no doubt form the basis of an enjoyable week in the snow and mountains.

Ray will be staying in the picturesque Jungfrau region of Switzerland in a hotel in Grindelwald which is central to the Swiss Alps.

Let's hope he comes back unscathed and with a clear head!

Winchester paving project

Added 25/01/2010

If you've walked through the centre of Winchester recently, you will notice that there is a lot of repaving work going on. After much public demand to know what exactly is happening, Acanthus were approached by the Councils Corporate Communications Team to produce artwork to place over the large perimiter fencing around the works.

The idea was to give the public an idea of what was happening, why it was happening and when the work is going to be completed. The boards would also contain a telephone number and website address for further information.

Printing was handled by Hampshire Printing Services.

Winter coldspell prompts remote access for staff

Added 14/01/2010

The recent cold spell made the Acanthus office very difficult to get to. Staff, who travel from Hedge-End and Hythe found the roads too trecherous to venture out. This prompted the completion of a long-standing project, a plan to access the Acanthus fileserver remotely from anywhere in the world (well, more specifically, from home!).

After much hair-pulling and much-appreciated guidance from local Apple Mac guru Mark Burr, the problem was resolved and the infrastructure that is Acanthus can now be accessed remotely...so, come hell or high water (or snow), it's business as usual!
